The Ultimate Guide for Decorating a Dorm Room to Make it Feel Like Home
How can you make your dorm room feel like home?
You may be one of the young adults that will be heading off to college for the first time in a few weeks. You may be moving into an empty dorm room and will definitely need to decorate, especially to make yourself as comfortable as possible so you don't get homesick. This is a big step and you'll need as much encouragement and help as possible to ensure that you succeed on this grand adventure. So how can you transform a small, plain space into a cozy and stylish sanctuary? The possibilities are endless! Here are some tips to help you make your dorm room feel cozy and comfortable, just like home!
I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. I'm also an affiliate for Wal-mart, Ebay, and other name brand products and may earn a commission if you make a qualifying purchase after clicking on one of my links. For more details, please see my Affiliate Disclosure.
1. Start with a color scheme
Color is key! Choose a color scheme that reflects your personality! Whether you prefer bold and vibrant colors or soft and neutral tones, make sure to coordinate your bedding, curtains, and accessories to create a totally "put together" look. If you want to make it feel more like your room at home, using the same color scheme would be a good strategy. But maybe you are ready for a big change, so then go all out, the brighter the better!
My
favorite color is purple, so I'd be looking at something in that field
of color, like this beautiful and colorful butterfly comforter. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZWHB
Maybe your
style is a little different than mine. I am really liking these Betsey
Johnson sheet sets with skulls. Some women and lots of men would
probably find these unique and appealing. They are definitely not your
regular, run of the mill, sheets! https://shopstyle.it/l/bZUSE
But I really LOVE purple! Check out this Olivia Reversible 5 piece Comforter Set from Macy's. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZWC9
Maybe you are a pet lover? How about a comforter with lots of cats? This one is definitely different and striking. Check it out here.
This 3D Galaxy Comforter from eBay is beautiful. The bright colors are stunning and I've always been a fan of the scifi genre, so this would be perfect for me. Maybe you would like this style as well? https://ebay.us/n9hyk4
Don't forget window treatments. This lovely Star Ombre Window
Curtain Panels Navy/White Set would look lovely in your dorm, plus they
might match the comforter above. Looking around, you can find matching
items from different retailers, that will build your look and make your
dorm room look gorgeous. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZWvP
If bright colors aren't your thing, then look for interesting patterns and designs, like these paisley sheets from Macy's. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZUPb
Amazon has tons of choices that you can browse through at Bedding (affiliate link).
2. Maximize storage space
Dorm rooms are notorious for their lack of storage space, so it's important to get creative. Invest in storage bins, under-bed organizers, and over-the-door hooks to make the most of every inch. Utilize vertical space by adding shelves or hanging organizers on the walls.
This over the door organizer will work great in the dorm and has windows so you know what's in each shelf.
There are
so many little ways to save room that you might not know about. Here we
have a closet organizer for your leggings. If you wear a lot of
leggings or yoga pants, then this item is for you. Makes it super easy
to hang them up, out of the way. See this item here.
Ebay has all kinds of innovative storage products you can check out here. https://ebay.us/lFC5Te
3. Add personal touches
Make your dorm room feel like your own by adding personal touches. Display photos of loved ones, hang artwork or posters that inspire you, and bring items that remind you of home. Even if you want to splurge and get all new stuff, it's still important to bring a few things from home. Each of our homes carry a distinct scent. If you've noticed that when you walk into your house, many times your stress levels will decrease, and this may be why. Bringing a few personal items may help when you start feeling homesick. A pillow or blanket from home that carries the scent of "home" can be a big help on those days you are missing home the most.
When
decorating your room, consider what appeals to you in your everyday
life. Finding items that convey your interests will help make your
space feel warm and inviting. Maybe you have a rustic/country taste, if
so some of these rusty signs from Etsy might be for you. Find rustic signs here.
Whatever
your styles, there are lots of choices available. One particular site
that you may not be aware of offers a huge variety of decorative items is Spoonflower. Decorative
items from Spoonflower can be found in a mind boggling number of different
designs, created by numerous independent artists. Check out my shop on Spoonflower!
Remember your color scheme? Mine was purple, so I know I'd love this pillow found here.
Encouraging signs are a good way to stay motivated and help you remember your goals, like this one: https://shopstyle.it/l/bZUcc
How about this wall hanging from Ebay? https://ebay.us/QzY9uu
4. Create a cozy seating area
Turn a corner of your dorm room into a cozy seating area where you can relax and unwind. Add a comfortable chair or bean bag, throw pillows, and a soft rug to create a space that feels like a home away from home. If you don't have enough space to do this, then you can purchase bed pillows that help you sit up and do things like homework or watching TV.
A super soft rug to sit on after a hard day will definitely not go to waste. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZWCO
A
beautiful, eye catching blue and white pattern rug just might be what
you need. How amazing would this look with the blue solar system
comforter set and the curtains? https://shopstyle.it/l/bZWHi

Don't
forget a comfortable pillow that will allow you to sit up in your bed in
the dorm and do homework. My daughter's first dorm room didn't have a
headboard, so this would have been perfect for her.
5. Let there be light
Good lighting can make a huge difference for the ambiance of your dorm room. Invest in a desk lamp for studying, fairy lights for a cozy glow, and curtains or blinds that allow you to control the amount of natural light coming in. If you don't have early classes, maybe you want to sleep in. Curtains that block the light will help you sleep in, if you are that lucky!
This gorgeous floor lamp is a great source of light, plus has the added benefit of including several shelves. https://walmrt.us/3LYD4yM
If you need more light at your desk, consider one like this Dimmable LED Desk Light Touch Sensor Table Bedside Reading Lamp USB Rechargeable from eBay. https://ebay.us/9DrmUq
It's
wonderful that many lamps you purchase today include usb ports. This
makes a big difference in finding enough outlets for all your devices.
Perhaps you need lamps for your bedside tables. This lamp is ultra modern with a clock and charging station, a must have. https://ebay.us/FdClLK
Maybe a stylish, gorgeous crystal lamp in a beautiful red color would suit your style better. https://ebay.us/eyXsQO
Don't just consider the "necessary" lighting. Think about fun ways you can use other lighting choices in your room. For instance, Wayfair offers many options of novelty and string lighting. Check them out at https://shopstyle.it/l/bZ4Ag.
6. Make it a reflection of you
Above all, make sure your dorm room reflects your personality and interests. Whether you're a sports fan, an art lover, or a music enthusiast, incorporate elements that showcase your passions. Surrounding yourself with things you love will make your dorm room feel like a true extension of yourself.
Sports fans can choose items with their favorite team's logo on them to hang on their walls, like this UK pennant. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZWBa
Don't forget other items like clocks, mirrors, keyholders and
photos. As a Kentuckian, I would want to purchase something like this
clock. Choose your favorite team to include in your decor and you'll be
the winner! This University of Kentucky Cat Clock with Double Neon
Ring can be found here. https://ebay.us/BQK07g
In Conclusion
Hopefully, this will help you find great products without having to do so much searching online. With these tips, you can transform your dorm room into a stylish and comfortable space that feels like home. Get creative, have fun, and make the most of your college experience!
That may be the end of my list, but there are so many other items
available that are made for use in dorm rooms! Check out this Off to
College section that Amazon offers online: https://amzn.to/45n3oKm Ebay offers a Back to School Sell you can browse through: https://ebay.us/368Ja7 Wal-mart offers a whole section on Dorm Kitchenware, so check that out as well: https://walmrt.us/3YBDP8d

Old Country and Bluegrass Gospel Music Video Playlist Blog Post
Old Country and Bluegrass Gospel Music Video Playlist:
Shell's Musical Memories
I recently had a birthday. After a certain age, you find that you would rather be reminiscing about your younger days, rather than partying. I guess it's a matter of perspective and old age. I decided to write a blog post about my favorite songs and include a playlist that I have compiled on Youtube. None of these are my songs, of course, but I try to include videos in my playlist where the original artist is given credit. Also, I need to say that I am an affiliate for Amazon, Ebay, and Shopstyle. This means if you click on one of my links and make an eligible purchase, I will receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your support!!
I grew up in the 70's & 80's, so the pop and rock songs from that
time frame are my favorites. However, my father was a pentecostal
preacher who played the guitar and banjo in church, while my mother was a
huge rock 'n roll and country music fan. She loved Elvis and the
Beatles. Both my parents were a large influence on my appreciation for
certain types of music. If you like bluegrass music, you can find lots of old bluegrass music here. (affiliate link)
Growing up, we lived in a fairly isolated location. For example, I was grown and married before they put cable tv up by our house. I grew up watching 2 channels and 2 channels only, WATE the ABC affiliate out of Knoxville and PBS, out of Sevierville, Tennessee. Those were the only 2 channels we could pick up on our tv antenna. One of my favorite tv shows at that time was the Lawrence Welk show. I know, that's wonderful!
Now to be clear, I don't mean the kind of antenna found on the back of your tv. I mean a 6 - 8 foot long antenna that was planted on top the huge mountain in front of our house in Kentucky. Needless to say, my sister and I spent more time in the hills, clearing debris off of the wire and rotating the antenna to improve our reception, than we actually did watching television. This meant we had lots of free time on our hands.
In order to relieve the boredom, my parents bought a floor model stereo system with an am/fm radio, 8-track player and record player. The radio never did pick up a radio station, but we had a huge record collection and a few 8-track tapes. My dad would pay us a few cents to listen to Gospel songs from his collection and write them in a single subject notebook. He used this as his "song book" to help learn new songs and to help remember all the words to them in church. None of the churches we attended at that time had actual song books, so he found a way to make his own. By the way, I still have most of the notebooks that we wrote them in. My mother treasured them and took good care of them until she passed away. Now, I do the same.
We listened and wrote down a lot of songs, because at our school, it was 15 cents for a small cup of pop (soda) and 25 cents for an ice cream. It would take a week or two, but I'd eventually save up enough money to purchase one or the other. :) But those were the songs I grew up listening to. I love the memories I have of that time, but I love the songs too, especialy since becoming a Christian. My favorite songs to sing in church are "I Saw the Light," and "Child of the King."
I hope you enjoy listening to these old Bluegrass and Country songs and enjoy them as much as I do. I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment or suggestion, plus I would love if you liked and subscribed to my Youtube channel found here: https://www.youtube.com/@shelldesignboutique

Challenges Faced by New Online Sellers from a Beginner's POV
Shell Design Boutique: https://linkpop.com/shelldesignboutique
The world of online selling offers endless opportunities for
entrepreneurs, both experienced and inexperienced alike. As a new online
seller, especially for those without prior experience in online
businesses, the journey can be fraught with challenges. In this blog
post, I will delve into some common obstacles faced by inexperienced
online sellers and offer potential solutions to overcome them. I will
offer you the official industry-standard solutions to these dilemmas,
then I will give my own unique point of view. I know many others will
understand what I'm talking about.
1. Finding the right niche and products
One
of the first challenges that a new online seller encounters is
identifying their target market and choosing the products they want to
sell. With countless options available, it can be overwhelming to find
the perfect niche that matches their interests, skills and potential
customer demand.
Solution: Conduct thorough research on various
marketplaces and industries. This involves studying market trends,
understanding consumer preferences and learning from experienced
sellers. By narrowing down your focus, you will be better equipped to
make informed decisions on your chosen niche.
My POV: I still struggle with this aspect of the selling journey. I
like clothing design, photography and print on demand products, using
my original designs, but there are 1000's of potential products just
with these 3 options. I have slowly been narrowing it down to what I
can do and what actually attracts customers, but it is an ongoing
process for me.
2. Navigating logistical complexities
New
online sellers might face logistical issues like arranging storage space
for their inventory or finding reliable suppliers. If inexperienced, it
can be challenging to negotiate prices or secure consistent product
quality.
Solution: Leverage well-established platforms such as
Amazon or Alibaba that ensure simplified logistics processes while
providing reliable supplier connections. For dropshipping solutions,
adopt trusted platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce that provide
efficient inventory management systems.
My POV: Again, it's just overwhelming at times. So many choices, it
blows my mind. I joined several online Facebook groups to help me with
my journey. The information I got was helpful, but marketers have taken
over several of these groups and will pounce on you at a moment's
notice.
3. Budgeting and pricing
Setting competitive
prices for your products without sacrificing profit margins is a
significant challenge, particularly when dealing with factors such as
shipping fees or taxes.
Solution: Stay updated with industry
pricing trends and keep track of your competitors' prices. Doing so will
help inform your pricing strategy and offer reasonably profitable rates
to stay ahead of competitors.
My POV: Knowing where to invest in your business can be a struggle.
Advertising is one place that I struggle. I'm looking for that magical
sale's funnel that will lead customers to me. I've created ads on
several different platforms, many of which weren't very effective.
4. Attracting customers
Building
an audience base is an uphill task for new online sellers in saturated
markets. Standing out among numerous competitors requires marketing
strategies that appeal to potential customers.
Solution: Use
various marketing tactics like social media promotion (Facebook,
Instagram, etc.), email marketing, and content marketing to reach out to
potential customers and establish a strong brand presence.
My POV: This is also very challenging aspect. Unless you already
have a huge following on social media, in the beginning you will be
advertising to your friends and family. I hate asking close friends and
family to buy my products, but they know me and trust me, so they are
the ones who will actually buy something. I continue to reach out to
other markets, but it has been difficult. One big concern I have is
posting too often, causing them to unfriend me!!
5. Handling customer service
New
online sellers might struggle to provide exceptional customer service
due to a lack of experience or resources. Promptly addressing the
queries or needs of customers is paramount to maintaining a trustworthy
and reputable image.
Solution: Be proactive in improving your
customer service skills by learning from industry leaders or attending
workshops and webinars. Equip yourself with the right tools like
live-chat software, user-friendly return policies, and feedback
monitoring systems to keep your customers happy.
My POV: I have woked hard to build a customer service network that
will help address any concerns my clientele might have. Unfortunately,
those marketers who say they can guarantee me 5000 customers in a week
are the ones who are messaging my customer service line at 4 am, wanting
to know if I'm available to discuss a new marketing strategy. I know
if they can find me so easily, the customers can too!
6. Coping with ever-changing market trends
Online
businesses often face rapidly evolving market trends and customer
preferences. Adapting to these changes can be arduous for new sellers
who may be unfamiliar with navigating the world of e-commerce.
Solution:
Keep an eye on emerging trends and technological advancements by
following industry news, participating in relevant online communities,
or attending events focused on e-commerce. Engage in continuous learning
to stay ahead of the competition
My POV: I've been selling Stock Photos online since 2014, so I know how things can change. With our rapidly changing economy, however, I have noticed that things are changing even faster. As small business owners find it difficult to sell products, the larger companies are feeling their pain as well. Several companies I work with have started revamping, advertising more and even going out of business. It is extremely hard to keep up with.
In conclusion, I have tried to address the many challenges that new sellers may face in starting an online business and to offer some industry-standard solutions. But I hope I have also made a connection with those who are facing some of the same problems I am. We are all in this together!
As a designer, I have begun to use Printify in many of my projects. I've been very pleased with the results. Check them out!

Embracing Your Curves: A Guide for Slaying Form-Fitting Clothing

For too long, plus-sized women have been told to hide their bodies
beneath loose, shapeless garments. But here's the good news – gone are
those days! If you're someone who loves to show off your curves in tight
clothing, this blog post is for you. Get ready to ditch those baggy
outfits and celebrate your beautiful body with confidence.
1. Know your body type
When
it comes to choosing form-fitting clothing that flatters your figure, the
secret lies in understanding your body type. Just like everyone else,
plus-sized women come in different shapes and sizes. Determine if you're
an hourglass, pear, apple, or rectangle and embrace styles that
highlight your best features.
2. Invest in quality shapewear
A key piece of advice for
any woman who loves to wear tight clothing is investing in quality
shapewear. Not only does it provide support but helps smooth out your
silhouette - giving you the confidence to slay every outfit. However, you may prefer not to wear any restrictive sharpwear and that's fine as well.
3. Accentuate your waist
Highlighting your waist can
instantly elevate any outfit—no matter the size. Use belts and
high-waisted pieces to create an hourglass shape, show off your natural
curves, and make you feel fabulous.
4. Choose the right fabrics
Not all form-fitting clothing is equal. When shopping for these garments, choose fabrics that offer both stretch and structure like premium cotton blends or ponte knit. These materials provide support while adapting to your body's shape.
5. Opt for vertical patterns
Vertical patterns are
universally slimming while adding flair to your wardrobe. Stripes,
seams, and elongating prints can give the illusion of length and create a
slenderizing effect—emphasizing all the right places. Plus Size Natural Stripe Maxi Dress (affiliate link)
6. Accessorize wisely
Accessories
have the power to make or break any outfit—including form-fitting
attire. For tight clothing, opt for statement necklaces, bold earrings,
or stylish scarves that will enhance your
overall look. Nasty Gal Flower Chain Drop Earrings (affiliate link)
7. Mix in some loose layers
Wearing tight garments doesn't mean you have to give up on layering altogether! A loose cardigan, duster, or kimono over a form-fitting outfit can add dimension and give a chic, relaxed vibe to your ensemble.
So don't shy away from embracing the tight clothing trend as a
plus-sized woman. Confidence should be the primary ingredient of any
outfit. Celebrate your body by wearing clothes that make you feel
attractive and empowered. Follow these tips on rocking tight attire, and
unleash the fashionista within!
